A 4ft fence panel gives you a good middle ground. It marks out your edges, but it doesn’t tower over the garden. We often see people use them in front gardens, along driveways, or in places where a tall fence would feel out of place. We fit a lot of 4ft fence panels for customers who want privacy at the back but something lower at the front.
You still retain the strength and structure of a proper panel, but the garden remains open and inviting. If you need more information on fence panels please take a look at our fence panels buyers guide here.
Where 4ft Fence Panels Work Best
We’ve fitted 4ft fence panels in London terraces and open Kent driveways. They offer flexibility that taller or shorter fences don’t always give.
Popular Fence Styles in 4ft
We stock the full range of 4ft fence panels at this height so that you can match the look to your home.
Each of these styles brings its own benefit. We often help customers mix and match, for example, by picking a picket at the front and a closeboard at the side.
How 4ft Compares to Other Heights
We often hear people say they’re stuck between 3ft and 6ft. Here’s what to think about when deciding if a 4ft fence panel is the right choice:
We Are Here To Help
One customer in Orpington wanted fencing for a corner plot. A 6ft fence felt too heavy next to the pavement, but a 3ft fence looked too low. We suggested 4ft closeboard panels. Years later, hes still got them up, and the customer often tells us neighbours compliment the look.
In another case, a customer in Maidstone needed something neat for her front garden. She went for 4ft picket panels. They framed the space perfectly, giving her the tidy look she wanted without blocking the views.
We don’t push one option over another. We listen to what matters to you, then suggest the right panel for the job.

This would all depend on what size gravel board you are using. As an example if you was using a 1ft gravel board you would need to use a 7ft fence posts. This would give you the recommended depth of 2ft in the ground
We only sell uc4 treated posts.
Yes! We make the widest fence panels that you can buy. The fence panels range from 7ft to 10ft wide.
All of our fence panels are fully pressure treated.
You will not need to treat your fence panels bought from G&G as they are fully pressure treated but if you want to keep them looking fresh we recommend Barrentine Timber Protector to repel water, protect against UV damage and mould. The Barrentine Timber Protector offers good surface protection due to its wax content, but it's really only suitable for use on pre-treated timber.
