Loft Floorboard Sizes We Stock

- 22mm Floorboards – Thicker and tougher. Best if you need extra strength, like in busy living areas or where heavier furniture will sit.

Common Mistakes to Avoid with Chipboard Floorboards
Chipboard floorboards are tough, but a few small mistakes can cause big problems later. Here’s what to watch out for.
- Not gluing the joints – It’s tempting to just slot them together and move on. But without glue, you’ll get squeaky floors over time. Always add a bead of wood glue into the tongue and groove before fitting.
- Forgetting an expansion gap – Wood-based boards swell and shrink with changes in temperature and moisture. Always leave a small gap (around 10mm) around the edges of the room. It gives the floorboards room to breathe and stops buckling later.
- Dragging boards across the floor – It’s easy to drag a board across when you’re tired, but it can snap the tongue or damage the edges. Always lift and place the boards where you need them.
What to Lay Under Floorboards
Getting the base right makes a big difference to how your floor holds up.
- Damp-Proof Membrane (DPM) – If you’re laying floorboards over concrete, a DPM is a must. It stops moisture from rising up and damaging the boards. It’s a simple sheet of plastic, but it protects your floor long-term.
- Foam Underlay – For upstairs floors or dry timber bases, a thin foam underlay works well. It helps soften noise, smooth out minor bumps, and gives the floor a bit of cushioning.
