If you’re after a fence that actually feels like a fence - not one that wobbles at the first gust of wind - tongue and groove fencing could be the one for you. They’re strong, secure, and completely solid, with no gaps, see-through bits, or weak areas. It's just a proper, well-built panel that does its job and looks good doing it.
Unlike weaker panels with overlapping pieces of wood that can warp and rattle over time, these interlocking boards lock tightly together. The result is a straight fence that keeps the wind out and gives you proper privacy.

Why Pick Tongue and Groove Fencing?
If you want a fence that won’t shake when the wind picks up, this is it. Each panel is made from interlocking tongue and groove boards that fit together perfectly, creating a rigid, strong structure. Add the rebated frame, mortise, and tenon joints, and you’ve got fencing built to last.
No Gaps and Wobbles
Overlap panels shift over time, leaving gaps, warping and weak areas. Tongue and groove panels lock together tightly, so there’s no movement, no rattling, and no awkward little spaces where the neighbour's dog can stare at you while you’re having a cuppa.
Privacy and Security
These panels are fully solid, meaning no one can see through them. If you want your garden to feel secluded and peaceful, they’re the perfect choice. Plus, the thick construction helps block noise, so if you live near a road, these can make things a bit quieter.
No More High-Maintenance Fencing
Some fences start leaning, warping, or needing repairs within a couple of years. Not these. Their interlocking design holds its shape and is pressure-treated to protect against rot and dampness.

Picking the Right Size
All our tongue and groove panels are 1800mm (just under 6ft). We have the following sizes available.
If you’re replacing old panels, double-check the width - sold older fences might need packers or minor adjustments for a perfect fit. They’re small timber or plastic spacers that slot between the panel and the post. You get no gaps or awkward wobbles - just a perfect fit.
- 6ft x 6ft (1800mm x 1800mm) - Maximum privacy. It keeps things quiet, secure and completely hidden.
- 6ft x 5ft (1800mm x 1500mm) - A bit more open but still great for security and privacy.
The good news is that you don’t need to treat these panels. They’re already pressure-treated, meaning they’re protected from rot, damp, and insects.
However, if you want to keep that fresh timber look longer, we recommend Barrentine Timber Protector. It repels water, helps prevent UV damage and mould, and keeps your fence looking newer for longer. Since Barrentine has wax content, it’s best used on pre-treated timber - which is exactly what these panels are made of.
Painting Tongue and Groove Panels
As mentioned above, they don’t need extra treatment, but you can still paint or stain them if you want a different look. If you are staining them, make sure you use a high-quality wood stain, as this will help enhance the look of the grain on the wood.
If you choose to paint your fence rather than stain it, look for one that provides UV and weather protection. Make sure to wait a few months before painting so that the pressure treatment we add has fully settled in.
Noise Reduction
Tongue and groover panels are a good choice for helping with noise reduction. If you live on a busy road or have noisy neighbours, these panels can help decrease noise levels. This is because they are fully solid with no gaps and block out more noise than traditional overlap fencing. - What is a T&G fence panel?
The T&G (Tongue and Groove) is a very strong modern contemporary fence panel made from thick tongue and groove timber.
How wide is a Tongue & Groove fence panel?Tongue & Groove fence panels are 1800mm wide. They are smaller than a standard British fence panel so if you are changing your panels you will need fence packers to make them the same size.
Is a Tongue & Groove fence panel flimsy?No, our T&G fence panels are very strong as they are made from thick T&G boards.
What are the advantages of an T&G fence panel?The main benefit of an T&G panel is they are very strong and look great. These panels are solid.
Are the T&G fence panels treated?Yes, all our fence panels are fully pressure treated.
Do you make custom T&G fence panels?No, unfortunately we do not make custom T&G fence panels.
Do I need fence packers for T&G fence panels?If you are using standard British gravel boards you will need to use fence packers with your T&G fence panels to make the the same size. You can cut the gravel boards down to the same size of the panel if you do not want to use them.Do I need to treat T&G fence panels?You will not need to treat your T&G fence panels bought from G&G as they are fully pressure treated but if you want to keep them looking fresh we recommend Barrentine Timber Protector to repel water, protect against UV damage and mould. The Barrentine Timber Protector offers good surface protection due to its wax content, but it's really only suitable for use on pre-treated timber.
Do I Need Gravel Boards for T&G fence panels?You do not need gravel boards with your T&G fence panels but we would recommend a concrete or wood gravel board for them to sit on. Your fence panels will last longer with a gravel board.What colour do the T&G fence panels come in?Our Tongue And Groove Panels fence panels come fully pressure treated in natural (green).
Do I need wood or concrete posts?We would recommend concrete fence posts for fence panels. Wood is also a good option if using uc4 treated fence posts. This will ensure they will last with ground contact. We only sell uc4 treated posts.Are T&G fence panels strong?Yes! Our T&G fence panels are very strong but we do make a stronger fence panel.
