6ft fence panels are the most popular size used in UK gardens. If you look out of your window at your and your neighbours' gardens, theres a good chance you are looking at 6ft fence panels. They fit in with planning rules, help stop nosey neighbours from looking into your garden, and keep your family safe. We stock a variety of 6ft panels, each with designs to suit you and your garden. If you need more information on fence panels please take a look at our fence panels buyers guide here.
Why 6ft Fence Panels Are Popular
Different Types of 6ft Fence Panels
Closeboard Panels
A 6ft closeboard panel gives your garden solid strength. The overlapping boards hold firm against wind and weather, which is why we often fit them in exposed plots. They come in natural or brown, so you can match the look. In our experience, once the closeboard goes up, it stays steady for years.
Feather Edge Panels
Feather-edge panels balance cost and durability. The tapered boards overlap neatly, giving you a tidy finish without the weight of closeboard. Many trades pick them for everyday jobs because they last well but keep prices down. If you want something reliable that doesn’t break the budget, a feather edge fits the bill.
Waney Panels
Waney panels bring a rustic, budget-friendly option. The rough-sawn boards overlap in a softer style that suits long runs or allotments. They don’t last as long as heavier panels, but they cover ground quickly and cheaply. We’ve seen plenty used where appearance matters less than keeping a space secure.
Slatted Panels
Slatted panels give a modern edge to a 6-foot fence. The horizontal lines allow light to pass through while still blocking direct views. Double-slatted versions take it a step further by staggering the gaps for added privacy. We’ve fitted these in gardens where people wanted a “designer” look that still gave screening around patios or seating areas.
Decorative Panels
If you want your fencing to stand out, decorative panels, such as those found in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, or Staffordshire styles, do the job. Shaped tops and framed edges add detail that works well at the front of a property or as a feature in the back. They make a boundary look more like part of the garden design.
Tongue & Groove Panels
Tongue and groove panels interlock tightly, which makes them very rigid. The finish is smooth, smart, and secure. You can even choose versions with lattice tops for a touch of detail. We often recommend these for front gardens or any space where people want a neat, premium look.
Double-Sided Panels
Double sided panels solves the issue of which neighbour gets the good side. Both faces look the same, so you and your neighbour get a clean finish. They’re sturdy, too, which makes them ideal for shared boundaries. In our experience, they prevent disputes about who ends up staring at the back of the fence.
Acoustic Panels
For gardens near roads or railways, acoustic panels reduce noise while still looking like standard fencing. They won’t silence everything, but they do cut background sounds enough to make evenings outside more pleasant. We’ve had customers tell us they noticed the difference on the same day the panels were installed.
Composite Panels
Composite panels mix timber fibres with plastic, which means they don’t rot or need constant treatment. They hold their colour and suit modern homes that need low-maintenance solutions. We’ve fitted them in new builds where people wanted a fence that stays smart without the yearly job of staining timber.
Extra Wide Panels
Extra-wide 6ft panels cover longer runs with fewer joins, which gives a smooth, tidy line. They need fewer posts too, which saves time during fitting. We’ve used them in bigger gardens where customers wanted a straight, uninterrupted finish without breaking the flow with too many supports.
Cost and Lifespan
The price of a 6ft fence panel matters just as much as the style. Waney panels are sometimes half the price of closeboard panels, but theres a good chance they need replacing in half the time. Your budget may influence the type of fence panels you ultimately choose.

This would all depend on what size gravel board you are using. As an example if you was using a 1ft gravel board you would need to use a 9ft fence posts. This would give you the recommended depth of 2ft in the ground
We only sell uc4 treated posts.
Yes! We make the widest fence panels that you can buy. The fence panels range from 7ft to 10ft wide.
All of our fence panels are fully pressure treated.
You will not need to treat your fence panels bought from G&G as they are fully pressure treated but if you want to keep them looking fresh we recommend Barrentine Timber Protector to repel water, protect against UV damage and mould. The Barrentine Timber Protector offers good surface protection due to its wax content, but it's really only suitable for use on pre-treated timber.
