Metpost Drive In Post Spikes
Drive in fence post spikes are a quick and easy way to erect fencing and garden posts as they require no digging or concreting into place, saving time and money. These metal fence post spikes feature a 4 fin steel spike to ensure a solid, permanent, wind resistant fit. The bolt secure version features 2 x 8mm carriage bolts that tighten and clamp the post firmly into the post holder section to prevent any post movement as well as allowing for over/under sized post tolerance. The bolt secure system also allows for removal of the post at a later stage if required. The quick fit version features inverted fins inside the post holder section that will hold the post in a vice like grip. The Meta posts system prevents against post rot and decay as it will hold the base of the post above ground level. These post spikes are available in a red oxide powder coat to blend in with the fencing and provides medium rust protection or hot dip galvanised for maximum rust protection. Both options can be over painted if you wish. For 4ft fencing use a 600mm fencing spike, for 6ft fencing use the 750mm fencing spikes. - What is a fence post spike?
A fence post spike (sometimes called a post support spike or drive-in post spike) is a metal bracket with a long spike attached, designed to hold fence posts securely in the ground without needing to dig holes or use concrete.
Here’s how it works:- The spike (usually 45–75 cm long) is driven into the ground with a sledgehammer or driving tool.
- The bracket or box section at the top is sized to fit a wooden fence post (commonly 75x75 mm or 100x100 mm).
- The post is inserted into the bracket and secured with bolts or tightening screws.
- Quick and easy installation (no need to mix concrete).
- Keeps the base of the wooden post out of contact with soil, reducing rot.
- Posts can be replaced more easily in the future.

How do you install a fence post spikeMark the line of your fence- Run a string line between end posts or corner markers.
- Mark where each post spike will go, measuring the correct spacing (usually 6–8 ft / 1.8–2.4 m apart).
- Place the spike in the marked spot with the bracket facing the correct direction for your fence line.
- Place a driving tool (or a sturdy wooden block) into the bracket.
- Use a sledgehammer to drive the spike into the ground.
- Stop every few hits to check it’s going in straight and vertical with a spirit level.
Set the depth- Drive until the entire spike is buried, with only the bracket above ground.
- Ensure the top is level with your string line so all posts will sit evenly.
- Drop the wooden fence post into the bracket.
- Check with a spirit level that it’s vertical.
- Tighten the clamping bolts (or hammer in the wedge fixings, depending on your spike type).
- Install the next spike using the string line to keep everything straight.
