All 3ft Fence Panels
A 3ft fence panel changes a garden more than you might think. It won’t block the view, but it gives structure and a sense of order. Many people choose 3ft fence panels for front gardens or driveways, where you want something neat without completely enclosing the area.
We’ve fitted plenty of 3ft fence panels over the years, and the reaction is always the same as the garden suddenly feels finished. A short run of panels can make as much difference to curb appeal as a fresh coat of paint on the front door. If you need more information on fence panels please take a look at our fence panels buyers guide here.
Types of 3ft Fence Panels
Closeboard Panels
If you want strength in a smaller panel, closeboard is hard to beat. The overlapping boards add weight and durability, so even at 3 feet, the fence feels solid. These are a good choice for side gardens, where you might not want tall fence panels but still need something substantial. 3ft fence panels are also helpful if you have pets, as the low barrier keeps them safe without making the garden feel closed in.
We’ve fitted plenty of these where people wanted to match taller fencing at the back with shorter panels at the front. The look ties together nicely and maintains consistency throughout
3ft Feather Edge Panels
Feather edge has the same overlapping design, but it feels a bit lighter than closeboard. At 3ft, it gives a neat and traditional look, especially in smaller front gardens. Trades often use these because they strike a balance between cost and reliability.
If you’ve got an older property, feather edge works well because it blends in without stealing attention. We’ve seen them sit in front gardens for years, softening into the surrounding planting.
3ft Double Sided Closeboard Panels
These are a popular choice when the fence line is shared. Each side looks the same, so you and your neighbour both get a nice finish. At 3ft high, they’re perfect for front gardens where appearance matters most.
One job sticks in my mind where two neighbours agreed on double-sided panels so they’d both be happy with the result. Years later, both gardens still look tidy without any complaints about the bad side facing the wrong way.
3ft Waney Panels
Waney panels use overlapping horizontal boards, giving a rustic style that many people like. They cost less than closeboard, so they’re often chosen for long runs or allotments where budget is a concern. At 3ft, they’re just enough to mark the boundary without blocking light.
We’ve seen them work well on side plots or between front gardens, where the aim is simply to divide space without incurring heavy costs.
3ft Picket Fence Panels
A picket fence is the classic 3-foot fence. You’ll see picket fences with round tops for a softer feel or pointed tops for a sharper line. They’re what most people picture when they think of a front garden fence.
Picket panels set the tone of a home. Round tops make a garden look welcoming, while pointed tops give a more formal finish. Both keep the space open while guiding visitors to the front door.
We are big fans of fitting picket fencing because you see the difference right away. A driveway edged with neat pickets feels complete in a way nothing else quite matches.
3ft Decorative Panels
Short panels can still be decorative. Designs like the Buckinghamshire or Hertfordshire panels add shaped tops and framed details that stand out. These are popular in front gardens, often paired with planting or brickwork.
If you have a small space, a decorative 3ft panel can improve the look without overwhelming it. We recall a customer who used them against a hedge, and the curve of the tops complemented the greenery beautifully.
Custom Options
Sometimes gardens don’t follow standard sizes. That’s when custom closeboard panels at 3ft come in handy. If you need a run of panels cut to fit, you can order them built to measure so the line stays even.
It saves the hassle of odd gaps or trimming panels yourself, and it keeps the fence looking as if it were always meant to be there.
Why 3ft Works
People often think of fences in terms of privacy and security. However, at 3ft, the focus shifts more to style and proportion. These panels help gardens look neat, frame entrances, and make planting beds stand out. They can also guide children or pets without cutting off your view.

This would all depend on what size gravel board you are using. As an example if you was using a 1ft gravel board you would need to use a 6ft fence posts. This would give you the recommended depth of 2ft in the ground
We only sell uc4 treated posts.
Yes! We make the widest fence panels that you can buy. The fence panels range from 7ft to 10ft wide.
All of our fence panels are fully pressure treated.
You will not need to treat your fence panels bought from G&G as they are fully pressure treated but if you want to keep them looking fresh we recommend Barrentine Timber Protector to repel water, protect against UV damage and mould. The Barrentine Timber Protector offers good surface protection due to its wax content, but it's really only suitable for use on pre-treated timber.
