Our Standard MDF Sheet Size
We stock MDF sheets at 2440mm x 1220mm (that’s 8ft by 4ft for most builders and DIYers). It's the go-to size for all sorts of projects — furniture, shelving, wall panelling, you name it. It is big enough to cover a good area and easy enough to cut down if you need a custom fit.
12mm MDF – Lightweight and Versatile
Our 12mm sheets are a great choice for lighter jobs. Perfect when you need strong, flat panels without adding loads of weight. Think cabinet backs, wall cladding, boxing in pipes, or even light-duty shelving. They’re easy to handle, easy to fix, and give a smooth surface that's ready for painting or laminating.
18mm MDF – Built for Strength
When strength matters more, 18mm MDF is the way to go. This is what you want for wardrobe carcasses, kitchen units, built-in shelving, and projects that need to take a bit of weight. It gives a solid, premium feel without being over the top. We’ve seen it used for everything from custom desks to heavy-duty storage cupboards — and it holds up beautifully when finished well.

Standard MDF or Moisture-Resistant MDF?
This is a choice we help customers with all the time. Standard MDF is brilliant for dry, indoor jobs. But if you’re working in a kitchen, bathroom, or anywhere moisture might sneak in, moisture-resistant MDF is the safer bet.
Some people learn this the hard way. One client was fitting a set of shelves in a utility room using standard MDF. A few weeks later, swollen edges, ruined paintwork. That’s why now, for anything even slightly damp, we always recommend the moisture-resistant boards. It’s a small upgrade that saves a lot of hassle down the line.
Easy to Cut
One of the things we like best about MDF is how forgiving it is. Straight cuts, curved edges, decorative trim, it handles it all. And because it’s uniform inside, you don’t get the hidden voids or hard patches that sometimes wreck a blade or throw off a cut in other boards.
If you’ve got the right tools, a saw, a router, and some good sandpaper, you can create something sharp and professional without the material fighting back. Just don’t forget the dust mask. We say that from experience, too. MDF dust has a habit of getting everywhere.

- What is MDF?
Medium-density fibre (MDF) is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibre, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming it into panels by applying high temperature and pressure. MDF is generally denser than plywood. It is made up of separated fibre but can be used as a building material similar in application to plywood. It is stronger and denser than particle board.
