Types of Gates We Stock
Feather Edge Gates
Feather-edge gates give solid cover and strong protection. You often see them on side entrances where privacy is a concern. For example, a feather-edge gate between two houses not only blocks the view but also keeps the garden secure.
Tongue and Groove Gates
Tongue-and-groove gates utilize interlocking boards for a strong finish. They suit the main entrances where looks count. A front driveway with a tongue-and-groove gate feels tidy and welcoming without losing strength.
Slatted and Double Slatted Gates
Slatted gates allow light and air to pass through while still marking the boundary. They work well at the end of a garden path where you want some privacy without closing things in. A double-slatted gate does the same but softens the view even more, which makes it popular in courtyards.
Picket Gates
Picket gates have a classic look and a friendly feel. They fit best at the front of a garden. A picket gate next to a low fence guides visitors in while keeping pets and children safe.
Trellis-Top and Shaped Gates
A trellis or shaped top adds decoration to a standard gate. It suits gardens where fencing runs into landscaped areas. A trellis-top gate, for example, by a patio, blends in with climbing plants and lets in extra light.
County Style Gates
County-style gates, such as those found in Staffordshire or Buckinghamshire, come with their unique patterns and details. They suit anyone who wants a ready-made style. A Buckinghamshire gate at the front of a home adds character straight away.
Custom Sizes
Some spaces don’t take a standard gate. We build custom sizes at our workshop in Dartford. A made-to-measure gate works for awkward gaps, uneven walls, or one-off projects.
What Makes Our Gates Last
Every gate is pressure-treated so the timber can resist rot. That treatment extends the wood's life outdoors and helps it withstand rain and frost.
A framed build keeps the gate rigid. It holds its shape through daily use, while cheaper gates often start to sag.
Strong hardware keeps everything working smoothly. Hinges carry the weight, latches close cleanly, and bolts give extra strength when needed.
One customer fitted a framed feather-edge gate at a side entrance. Three winters later, the gate still shut square. The old one had started to twist badly after only a year.
Installation and Fitting Advice
We fit gates and fences every day. Experience has shown us that a gate only lasts if installed with care. Good timber makes a difference, but the real test comes down to how you set the posts and hang the fittings. We have seen gates stay strong for decades when the basics were done right. We have also seen gates sag within months when the people installing them took shortcuts. Follow these steps to give your gate the best chance of lasting a long time.

Yes it can! Painting treated fencing wood will not only help you achieve your ideal aesthetic but also gives the wood an additional layer of protection, which is always good.
Most treated timber is still “wet” from the treatment and needs time for the chemicals in the wood to settle and dry. You will notice, the wood is heavy and will still feel damp to the touch. If primer or paint is added to it at this point, there is every likelihood that it will be rejected by the water-based chemicals that are still working their way through the wood.
It is important to allow the timber to dry out fully before attempting to add paint or primer. This can be a lengthy process and may even take up to a few weeks depending on where the wood is stored. If there is too much heat and direct sunlight, this can cause the treated timber to warp instead of dry out. Damp conditions can also prolong the drying-out period.
We recommend 1 to 2 inches under the gate.
